The Canadian Tourism Commission Announces the GoMedia 2012 Awards
The search for standout Canada travel stories is about to begin. Prepare now to submit your page turners and riveting travel tales to the GoMedia 2012 Awards launching soon. Join us in our annual celebration of excellence in travel journalism. Canadian and international journalists – from bloggers and citizen journalists to veteran writers and contributors – will vie for the annual awards. Media relations representatives will also be recognized for professionalism and innovation, and new this year, we will be nominating our2012 Canadian “GoGetter for PR Excellence"! Journalists are invited to tell us about the most exceptional service by our Canadian destination Public Relations pros. Winners will be announced at the GoMedia Canada Marketplace in Whitehorse, Yukon May 27 – 31, 2012.


Top Canadian Travel Story Award – Canadian Submissions

  • French and English submissions only

  • Open to all journalists who have produced travel stories about Canada as a result of past GoMedia attendance in 2009, 2010, or 2011

  • Published, written non-fiction travel-inspired work (print, online, radio, television)

  • Only one submission per participant

  • No limit for number of words

  • Submissions are judged based on overall quality and impact of story, inspiring readers to think about Canada as a travel destination


Best Travel Blog Award – NEW: Canadian and International Submissions

  • All languages accepted

  • Written and produced by individuals or a group of individuals versus corporations

  • Must feature dedicated Canadian travel content

  • Design should be user friendly – easy to read and scan, useful call-to-action links embedded in the text, such as linking to a hotel promotion or a tourism industry site

  • Video/image driven sites should include relevant, riveting copy.

  • Social media elements – such as Twitter, Google Maps, social bookmarking, e-mail-to-friend, etc. – can be integrated to the point of relevance and necessity but are not required

  • Only one submission per participant

  • Submissions are judged based on overall quality and impact of story, inspiring readers to think about Canada as a travel destination, as well as comment activity, traffic and interactivity

 

Top Canadian Travel Story Award – International Submissions (Print or Online)

  • All languages accepted

  • Open to all international journalists (Australia, Japan, S Korea, China, Germany, England, France, Mexico, Brazil and India) who have produced travel stories about Canada as a result of past GoMedia attendance in 2009, 2010, or 2011

  • Published, written non-fiction travel inspired work (online or print)

  • Only one submission per participant

  • No limit for number of words

  • Submissions are judged based on overall quality and impact of story, inspiring readers to think about Canada as a travel destination


Top Canadian Travel Story Award – International Submissions (Broadcast)

  • All languages accepted

  • Open to all international journalists (Australia, Japan, S Korea, China, Germany, England, France, Mexico, Brazil and India) who have produced travel stories about Canada as a result of past GoMedia attendance in 2009, 2010, or 2011

  • Published, written non-fiction travel inspired work (radio, video/film transferred to script )

  • Only one submission per participant

  • No limit for number of words

  • Submissions are judged based on overall quality and impact of story, inspiring listeners/viewers to think about Canada as a travel destination

 

Online Media Centre Award

  • Open to Canadian tourism partners including convention and visitor bureaus, PR firms, media relations representatives, tourism organizations, transportation, hotel and other travel and tourism sectors

  • Submissions are judged based on overall content and visuals, as well as usability, design and innovation

 

GoMedia GoGetter Award for PR Excellence

  • Journalists nominate a Canadian public relations representative who provided exceptional service in 2010-2011.

  • Share examples of this PR representative who went above and beyond the call of duty when organizing trip logistics for a visiting journalist and creatively assisted in the development of an exceptional Canadian travel story

  • One submission per journalist

  • Submit your nomination form by May 6, 2012
